Nature takes more than a billion years. A laboratory recreates the same conditions to grow the same crystal, using one of two methods.

HPHT

High Pressure, High Temperature

Replicates the crushing force and heat of the earth's mantle, where natural diamonds form.

CVD

Chemical Vapour Deposition

Carbon is deposited atom by atom from a hydrocarbon gas, building the diamond crystal layer by layer.

Both methods produce real diamonds. What matters for beauty is how the finished stone is graded and cut.

Good to know.

Is a lab-grown diamond a real diamond?

Yes. It has the same chemical composition, crystal structure, hardness and optical properties as a mined diamond. The difference is where it was grown, and that must always be disclosed, which is why every stone we sell is clearly identified as lab-grown.

Can anyone tell the difference?

Not with the naked eye, and a standard diamond tester will identify it as a diamond. Specialized laboratory equipment can determine origin. Stones of 0.50 ct and above are also laser inscribed with "LGD" and a tracking number.

Will a lab-grown diamond hold its value?

We will be straight with you: the resale market for lab-grown diamonds is limited, and prices for new lab-grown stones have fallen as production has grown. Choose lab-grown for its beauty and the size it allows, not as an investment. If long-term value matters most, a Canadian diamond may suit you better.

How durable is it for everyday wear?

Exactly as durable as a mined diamond. At 10 on the Mohs scale, it is ideal for engagement rings and pieces worn every day, including an active mountain life.
