How To Know A Real Diamond From A Fake
When purchasing diamond jewellery for that special person in your life it is important to know that you are getting real, high-quality Canadian diamonds.
Looking closely at diamond can give some valuable insight on its quality.
Here is how to tell if your Canadian Diamond is real ...
Study the reflections of the diamond.
Real diamonds usually reflect various shades of grey; rainbow reflections usually mean the stone is fake or of low-quality.
Take the unmounted diamond and turn it upside down
on a piece of newsprint.
If it is possible to read the print or see distorted black smudges through the stone, then it is either a fake or a disproportionately cut diamond.
If the stone is mounted, look at it directly from the top; the bottom of the diamond should not be visible.
Moissanite (silicon carbide) is a gemstone that is very similar to a diamond and even some jewellers have a hard time telling them apart.
They way to tell the difference is by looking for any sign of double refraction.
Check the facet junctions from the top side of the diamond; if there is any kind of doubling effect or double vision, then it is most likely moissanite.
Don't assume that it is a real diamond!
Always ask for a certificate ensuring its quality from an official diamond grading authority like GIA, EGL, PGGL or AGSL.
It is essential when shopping for diamonds to be vigilant and look for any signs of a low-quality stone or possible fake.
